In his quest for money and fame, religious horror novelist JB Ziphron created the Church of Universal Transcendence, a billion dollar money making enterprise. Cloaking itself as a religious non-profit, CUT offers costly courses promoted as improving self-confidence while the deeper levels recruit members to prepare for an imaginary demon war. Ex members have gone public about financial, emotional and physical abuses within the church, and now a son of the founder, Darius Ziphron, the church’s CFO has been killed, his murder made to look like a suicide. The physical evidence has yet to reveal any suspects, so FBI Special Agent Jordan Hawkins and her partner, computer expert Dr. Catherine Bernard, inherit the case from two agents in Los Angeles. They warn them the church’s current CEO employs ex FBI agents, so Jordan and Catherine go undercover as US Marshals Bjorn and Lucas. As Catherine begins digging for digital clues in the search for suspects from Cape Coral Florida to southern California, both she and Jordan realize narrowing their list of suspects is hard when faith is a fabrication, solely created to generate fear and big money.
